The past 4 months for DTP have been full of connection, collaboration, and community celebration. We’re excited to share with you some of the events, partnerships, and impact moments that are fueling our work and expanding our reach.
Since August 1, DTP has been present at more than a dozen community events across the region. From Mayor Scott’s Back to School Fest in downtown Baltimore to Planet Word’s Building Literacy Resource Fair in Washington, DC, our team has been building meaningful connections and identifying valuable resources to better support our scholars. These gatherings have allowed us to both celebrate and advocate.
We were proud to sponsor and attend the Associated Black Charities Cookout and Vehicles for Change Gala, and to lend our voice at the LifeBridge Health Community Mixer, where we discussed the importance of supporting dyslexic learners with Councilman John Bullock, Chair of the City’s Education Committee. We also stayed grounded in our school communities, meeting families face-to-face at events like the Education Resource Fair at Lansdowne Elementary School and Calvin Rodwell’s Back to School Bazaar.
All of this would not be possible without the unwavering support of our partners, including the Y of Central Maryland, our friends at the Maryland Book Bank, Reading Partners, and so many others who share our commitment to showing up as the helpers this city needs.
We’re also very excited about our partnership with Morgan State University and the National Center for Elimination of Educational Disparities to provide our Orton Gillingham training to college students. We hosted three informational sessions at Morgan in December to introduce the partnership and recruit students interested in making an impact on Baltimore City’s youth. A record number of students – 415! – have expressed interest in the program. Training for the first cohort of Morgan students begins after MLK day and we expect 25 students to join the ranks of DTP’s Tutors.
