YOUR JOURNEY TO LITERACY STARTS HERE

Step-By-Step Intake And Application Process

If you are applying for services and have questions about your status, contact our
Associate Director for Community Engagement & Student Outcomes.

1. Submit an Intake

Start by completing the Intake Form on our website, which asks for basic contact information and details about your reading difficulties as well as any physical conditions that may be related to language processing.

2. Submit Required Documents for Eligibility

After submitting your intake form, DTP will request documentation to confirm your eligibility. You’ll need to provide:

    • Verification of household income (e.g., tax return, assistance award letter, or pay stubs if the first two aren’t available).
    • Copies of any psychological or educational testing (if available) to help DTP understand your needs.
    • Permission slip signed by parent/guardian (if the applicant is a minor child)

NOTE: the sooner your submit the required documents the faster we will be able to help you.

3. Initial Application Review

Once all documentation is received, DTP will confirm your financial eligibility.

The Lead Psychologist will review your file to determine if the program can help you.

If eligible, you’ll move forward to the Initial Eligibility Screening, which will help us better understand your reading issues.

4. Initial Eligibility Screening

One of our testing psychologists will contact you directly to schedule an appointment for the Initial Eligibility Screening.  All screenings take place at DTP’s offices in The Rotunda, 711 W. 40th Street, Suite 310, Baltimore, MD 21211.

This screening lasts about 90 minutes.

5. Final Application Review

After the Initial Eligibility Screening, the Lead Psychologist will evaluate the results along with the rest of your application to decide whether to admit you to the program.

If our program can’t help with your specific learning issues and you’re not admitted, DTP is happy to provide referrals to other organizations that may be able to help.

6. Return Acceptance Letter And Confirm Availability

If admitted, you’ll receive an Acceptance Letter from DTP, which you’ll need to sign and return to complete the enrollment process.

Along with the acceptance letter, you’ll be asked for your schedule availability and locations where tutoring can take place.

We cannot match you with a tutor until you return both the Acceptance Letter and your schedule and locations form.

Note: Tutoring must occur in a public setting.

Start by completing the appropriate Intake Form (Under 18 Intake / 18 & Over Intake) on our website. The Intake asks for basic contact information, your availability, details about your reading issues and any physical conditions that may be related to your reading difficulties.

As soon as we receive your intake, we email you a list of materials needed to confirm your eligibility for services. These documents are required to move your application forward. You will have 4 weeks to submit these materials:

All applicants need to submit:

    • Verification of household income (e.g., tax return, assistance award letter, or pay stubs if the first two aren’t available).
    • Copies of any psychological or educational testing (if available) to help DTP understand your needs.

If the student is a child under 18 we also need:

    • A Permission Slip signed by parent/guardian (if the applicant is a minor child)
    • A teacher Referral Slip
    • A copy of your child’s IEP (if your child has one)
    • Your child’s most recent report card

NOTE: The sooner your submit the required materials the faster we will be able to help you.

Once we receive all of the required materials, DTP will confirm your financial eligibility.

If you qualify financially, our Lead Psychologist reviews the rest of your file to determine if DTP might be able to help you / your child. If the answer is yes, you’ll move forward to an Initial Eligibility Screening to help us better understand your reading issues.

One of our testing psychologists will contact you directly to schedule an appointment for the Initial Eligibility Screening. All screenings take place at DTP’s offices at The Rotunda, 711 W. 40th Street, Suite 310, Baltimore, MD 21211.

This screening lasts about 90 minutes.

After you complete your Initial Eligibility Screening, our Lead Psychologist reviews your results along with the rest of your application materials and determines whether DTP will be able help you. If you are accepted, you will receive an Acceptance Letter which you must sign and return before you can begin tutoring.

If our program cannot help your specific learning issues, we are happy to provide referrals to other organizations that may be able to help.

As soon as you sign and return your acceptance letter, we’ll begin matching you with a tutor who can meet with you when and where you are available.

We cannot match you with a tutor until you return your Acceptance Letter.

Note: All tutoring must occur in a public setting.

How Tutoring Works

Once You Are In The Program

Once DTP receives your signed Acceptance Letter, you’ll be added to our Waiting List for a Tutor.

The waiting time for a Tutor match can vary from 2 to 6 months. How quickly we can match you with a Tutor depends on the availability of tutors who can work with your schedule and location.

When matched with a tutor, DTP will schedule a Spark Meeting, which will be supervised by an instructor or psychologist.

During the Spark Meeting, the instructor/psychologist conducts a brief assessment to determine the starting point for tutoring and helps the tutor develop targeted plan lessons.

We will also schedule an observation after 8 hours of tutoring, also supervised by an instructor or psychologist.

NOTE: Both Spark Meetings and Observations take place at DTP’s offices at The Rotunda.

If you need to change tutors due to changes in location, schedule, or tutor availability, DTP will work to find a new tutor for you.

Notify DTP as soon as possible if your schedule changes.
