Eligibility
To be eligible for DTP’s free programs, students must meet financial requirements, live within our service area, and have a dyslexic learning style. Applicants will be asked to provide proof of income and other materials to confirm eligibility. While we do not require a diagnosis of dyslexia to help you, you may be asked to complete a screening to determine if DTP’s program can address your reading issues.
Please note, DTP does NOT provide diagnostic testing.

Eligibility Requirements
DTP students must meet income qualifications based on federal guidelines from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Adjusted Home Income Limits for the state of Maryland [link] which are adjusted annually. We can also consider benefit letters awarding other forms of government assistance. These guidelines look at both your total household income and the number of people in your household.
You can check the US HUD guidelines for Maryland to see if you qualify here.
You must reside within our current geographic area of service, which is greater Baltimore, Maryland. Please note that students in outlying counties will be considered but may have to wait longer for services pending the availability of tutors in their area. Students from out of state are not eligible for services.
Proof Of Income
To qualify for services, you must provide proof of income.
Acceptable documents include:
- Most recent tax return (Form 1040)
- Government assistance award letter
- Two most recent pay stubs (if you can't provide the first two options)

Screening for Dyslexia or Language-Based Learning Differences
There are many reasons why someone may struggle to read. DTP offers tutoring tailored to students with dyslexic learning styles.
Before enrolling, you/your child will undergo a screening to determine if DTP’s tutoring methods align with your specific needs.
Note: The screening is not a diagnosis of dyslexia but a way to assess if the tutoring approach will be effective.
