Volunteer Match
Dyslexia Tutoring Program (DTP) provides free one-on-one tutoring, professional assessments, and other services to low-income children and adults with dyslexia or language-based differences in greater Baltimore. Since 1985, we have helped thousands of individuals learn how to read and live with hope. All of our tutors are volunteers.
Volunteer tutors are the backbone of our core mission: teaching students to read. As a volunteer tutor, you receive 30 hours of Level I Orton Gillingham training - a structured, multisensory approach to reading, writing and spelling - to prepare you to work with dyslexic learners. This training is provided free of charge in return for a commitment to tutor a student in our program at least once a week for a total of 60 hours. After completing the training course, we match you with a student so you can help them gain one the most basic and important life skills - the ability to read. And throughout your tutoring you receive ongoing support through monthly mentoring sessions, periodic workshops, and dedicated staff.
DTP tutors come from all walks of life and range from college students to retirees. And they are the reason behind our students' success: the high school graduations, honor rolls, college degrees, trade certifications, job promotions. The confidence, accomplishment, and pride.
We invite you to join us and be part of their success stories!
To be eligible you must: be 18 years of age or older; have a high school diploma/equivalent; have a strong command of English; and pass a background check.
